The LS5/9 is a high-quality loudspeaker originally designed by BBC Research & Development and features a completely new 8-inch woofer developed entirely in-house and built using the finest materials available. Conceived for BBC studio and control-room monitoring applications, the LS5/9 maintains a close sonic kinship with its larger sibling, the LS5/8.

Equally at home in a domestic listening environment, its rich and well-balanced midrange reveals previously unheard details, even in the most familiar recordings.

Thanks to the invaluable work of designer Derek Hughes, the original BBC design has been faithfully recreated while achieving new levels of performance. A newly developed bass/midrange driver was created in collaboration with Volt Loudspeakers. It features a substantial die-cast aluminum chassis and a powerful motor assembly. The driver is completed by an ultra-selected polypropylene cone coupled with a high-quality rubber surround. Every bass/midrange unit is hand-assembled and individually tested by Volt.

The tweeter is a selected version of the renowned 34 mm Audax soft-dome unit, protected by a robust metal grille. A sophisticated crossover network seamlessly integrates the two drive units while equalizing the overall response for optimum performance.

The enclosure employs the classic BBC thin-wall, critically damped construction and is manufactured in the United Kingdom using premium 9 mm birch plywood. The hand-finished veneers are applied to exceptionally high standards. Cabinet panels are engineered to shift resonances away from the critical midrange region, while a layer of mineral wool provides the required internal damping. The grille, machined from a single piece of 9 mm birch plywood, is secured by hidden magnets mounted behind the front baffle.

The Graham Audio LS5/9 is a unique and highly impressive loudspeaker, delivering a level of performance that far exceeds what its compact dimensions might suggest.
