HIFIMAN brings back the HE6 Remastered, a new interpretation of one of the most iconic planar magnetic headphones in the company’s history. This version brings back the driver design used in the original HE6, preserving its sonic and engineering philosophy while introducing a more modern and lightweight headband.

The HE6 Remastered remains specifically designed for high-end desktop audio systems. Its particularly low sensitivity makes a sufficiently powerful headphone amplifier essential. When properly paired with a suitable audio chain, the result is outstanding resolution, extremely fast transient response, and remarkable dynamic authority.

The HE6 Remastered is therefore not simply a more accessible evolution of the original, but a deliberate return to the qualities that made the HE6 famous: a direct, open, precise, and uncompromising presentation.

The original HE6 design takes center stage again

For the HE6 Remastered, HIFIMAN has chosen to bring back the driver design of the first-generation HE6. The most recognizable structural and aesthetic elements have also been retained, including the circular ear cups, fully open-back construction, and distinctive transducer architecture.

At the same time, the user experience has been updated with modern 3.5 mm connectors on the ear cups and a second-generation suspended headband.

The HE6 Remastered also differs from the HE600 in its greater amplification requirements. It is aimed specifically at listeners looking for the powerful sonic character and high level of control that defined the original HE6.

An extremely thin and lightweight diaphragm

The transducer features a nanometer-thick diaphragm designed to minimize moving mass. Thanks to its extremely low weight, the diaphragm can respond rapidly to the musical signal, accelerating and stopping with remarkable precision.

This characteristic allows even the finest details of a recording to be reproduced accurately, from micro-transients and cymbal decay to the subtle textures of string instruments and the complex layers that make up the soundstage.

The large planar magnetic system also distributes its driving force evenly across the entire surface of the diaphragm. This contributes to low distortion, well-defined sonic contours, and highly effective control, even when playing recordings with wide dynamic variations.

Fast, energetic, and focused on neutrality

The HE6 Remastered avoids both artificially boosted bass and an excessively soft or forgiving presentation. The low frequencies extend deep while remaining linear and tightly controlled. Its sense of impact therefore comes not from adding more bass, but from the speed of the transients and the headphone’s ability to reproduce the dynamic contrast of the music.

The midrange is open and immediate, while the treble remains highly detailed and well defined. Overall, the HE6 Remastered delivers a transparent, lively, and energetic presentation that clearly reveals the characteristics of the recording and highlights the quality of the source and amplification being used.

A headphone designed for high-power amplification

The technical specifications clearly demonstrate the requirements of the HE6 Remastered. With a sensitivity of 83.5 dB and an impedance of 50 Ω, it is among the headphones that require particular attention when selecting an amplifier.

Smartphones, laptops, and basic DAC dongles are therefore not the intended environment for this model. To fully exploit its potential, a high-quality desktop headphone amplifier capable of delivering substantial current and equipped with ample power reserves is recommended.

Proper amplification is important not simply to achieve sufficient listening volume. An adequate power source contributes to transducer control, dynamic performance, bass precision, and the overall stability of the sound image.

Classic design, improved comfort

One of the most significant changes concerns the headband. The new composite construction with a suspended strap distributes the weight more evenly across the head and reduces the overall weight to 522 g, compared with approximately 550 g for the original HE6 configuration.

Although it remains a substantial high-end headphone in terms of both size and weight, the HE6 Remastered is therefore better suited to extended listening sessions thanks to its updated structure.

The external design also maintains a strong connection with the original model. The open-back circular ear cups, technical grille, and understated black finish preserve a clean, functional aesthetic that reflects the HE6’s purpose as a reference-level headphone.
