Compatible with both MM and MC cartridges, the Clearaudio Balance Plus is a high-end RIAA phono preamplifier featuring adjustable gain, automatic impedance detection, and a comprehensive input/output layout: unbalanced RCA input, RCA and XLR outputs, and a 6.33 mm headphone jack.

This reference-grade device comes in two separate enclosures, both crafted from anti-resonant, non-magnetic brushed aluminum. One houses the highly accurate RIAA circuitry, while the other contains the power supply with dedicated filtering and regulation.

On the rear panel, you’ll find two pairs of beautifully gold-plated RCA connectors for input and output, balanced XLR outputs, and a grounding terminal compatible with both grounding wires and banana plugs, depending on your turntable setup. On the underside of the unit, several controls are available: two buttons to select cartridge type (MM or MC), two for activating the subsonic filter (which removes ultra-low frequencies), and one to switch between XLR and RCA output. Thanks to its dual mono architecture, these settings can be configured independently for each channel.

The front panel features a headphone output, a mute button, a fixed/variable volume selector, and a gain control. Internally, the state-of-the-art components are laid out with extremely short signal paths to reduce noise and preserve signal fidelity and dynamics. Cartridge impedance is automatically detected and compensated for optimal performance.

Notably, the Balance Plus has no on/off switch—it is designed to remain continuously powered, not for energy saving, but to keep the circuits in optimal condition for consistent musicality.
